Five writing podcasts I subscribe to

Do you listen to podcasts? I love podcasts! They allow me to learn while I’m doing other things. Like making dinner, driving, folding laundry, going for a walk, or sitting in carline. And there’s something so soothing about listening to a warm host sharing their heart with listeners about something interesting. Or enjoying a fun conversation between a host and their guest.

I subscribe to podcasts about parenting, health, faith, setting goals, Americana, life hacks, and—of course—writing. Here are five of the writing-related podcasts I subscribe to:

The Because Fiction Podcast

The Because Fiction Podcast solely features interviews—or “chats”—with Christian fiction authors. Prolific author and voracious reader Chautona Havig hosts the podcast. While this show does not offer writing advice, it’s interesting to learn about each author’s writing process or the spark of inspiration behind their latest story. The bubbly host offers biweekly shows and covers all genres in the world of Christian fiction. Boasting a catalog of more than 300 episodes, Chautona’s engaging chats feel like having a cup of coffee with friends.

Fiction Writing Made Easy

Fiction Writing Made Easy is hosted by developmental editor and book coach Savannah Gilbo. The weekly podcast offers advice and strategies to help writers tackle issues such as plot problems, imposter syndrome, world-building, productivity, and much more. Sometimes Savannah is joined by a guest expert, but often it’s just her sharing her wisdom on how to make stories work. Savannah’s shows are simple but meaty, and I really enjoy her first-chapter analysis episodes.

Helping Writers Become Authors

Author and mentor K.M. Weiland hosts this biweekly show focused on all elements of writing and storytelling. From character development and plotting to overcoming obstacles and avoiding burnout, K.M. Offers rich wisdom in small doses. Her episodes average around twenty minutes, and with more than 600 of them, she’s covered nearly every topic a writer could want. Her robust website, full of both free and paid resources, serves as a companion to the podcast.

The Storyteller’s Mission

Dynamic Zena Dell Lowe hosts this weekly podcast, where she shares her passion for stories and storytellers in practical and concise episodes averaging twenty minutes each. Zena focuses on the storyteller, or artist, as a whole rather than just mastery of the craft. Zena’s background in the entertainment industry gives her the tools to help writers wield the power of their stories to make the world a better place—which she feels is the storyteller’s mission.

Your Best Writing Life

I’ve mentioned YBWL before. The weekly podcast features a conversation between the host and an industry expert, focusing on all things writing-related from how to start writing and editing to publishing and marketing—and everything in between. All from an unabashed faith perspective. Host Linda Goldfarb’s enthusiasm is so infectious, and I love the way she engages with her guests. Each week, the guest provides a freebie to listeners to complement the episode. I enjoy all of these podcasts, but Your Best Writing Life is one of my favorites.

What podcasts do you listen to? Will you add any of these to your subscription list? If you haven’t jumped on the podcast bandwagon yet, why not?
