There’s a lot going on in the world, and this week has been particularly heavy. Turmoil rages in the Middle East. A young man at my daughter’s high school took his own life. My parents lost a friend to cancer. It’s just been a lot. I’ll bet you’ve been struggling with hard things, too. So today is short and sweet, as I’m just sharing some scripture to cling to as encouragement for the brokenhearted.
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. ~Psalm 34:18
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. ~John 14:27
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea… ~Psalm 46:1-2
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. ~Isaiah 41:10
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. ~Psalm 121:1
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ~Matthew 5:28-30
We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. ~2 Corinthians 4:8-10
I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. ~John 16:33
Friends, what is breaking your heart? What burdens are you carrying today? Who or what do you turn to for comfort?
