Midyear Reading Challenge Check-in (Slightly Delayed)

Midyear Reading Challenge Check-in (Slightly Delayed)

July came and went, and I’m again behind in evaluating my progress on this year’s annual reading goals. For 2024, I set a lofty goal in the Goodreads Reading Challenge of 150 books since last year I completed 175 books, blowing by my 2023 goal of 100 books.

My current tally sits at 110 books this year, putting me 15 books ahead of schedule. Again, to get to this count, audiobooks constitute a big part of my reading life. Audiobooks have become a go-to tool for getting more books in during my car time and errands. But I still read plenty on my Kindle app and enjoy holding real hard-copy books in my hands, as well. In addition to utilizing audiobooks, I love to read series because of the momentum of rolling from one book to the next. I feel more invested in the continuing characters, too. I’ve read several series on my Kindle app and many others sit there waiting on me.

Without further ado, here’s the overview of the books I’ve read thus far. The genres that make up this year’s reading include:

  • Contemporary Romance
  • Historical Fiction
  • Historical Romance
  • Horror/Fantasy
  • Nonfiction
  • Romantic Comedy
  • Romantic Suspense
  • Sports Romance
  • Thriller/Mystery
  • Women’s Fiction

While I haven’t really branched out much in genre, I’m pleased to have read several new-to-me authors this year:

  • Sarah Adams
  • Kate Breslin
  • Katherine Center
  • Deborah Clack
  • Harlan Coben
  • Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney
  • Lucy Foley
  • Victoria Benton Frank
  • Robin Lee Hatcher (I’m reading my first fiction book by Ms. Hatcher; I’ve been working through her Words Matter prayer book for quite some time.)
  • Larry McMurtry
  • Rebecca Skloot
  • Kasey Stockton
  • Amor Towles

Additionally, I crossed many books off my TBR list, a few of which I’ve wanted to read for years:

  • Lonesome Dove
  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
  • The Nest
  • A Gentleman in Moscow

Overall, I can say I’ve greatly enjoyed most of the books I’ve devoured this year. I can’t wait to see what adventures I’ll enjoy through books over the remaining four months of this year! What about you? Did you join any reading challenges or set a goal this year?
