By now—if you’ve read my blog for any length of time—you have to know of my love for flash fiction. I’ve been blessed to have three of my short pieces published in Spark Flash Fiction, the online magazine for short, short romance stories. I shared the news in May that I was invited to join the Spark Flash Fiction staff. Honored to be asked, I’ve relished my role as Editorial Assistant. It’s been a privilege to edit stories for each edition of our quarterly magazine since I joined the team. And I look forward with excitement to our new submissions with every issue.
I love the other ladies at Spark. We’re like a big writerly family and count our authors as family, too. The group is made up of wonderful encouragers, and we all support and celebrate each other along our various writing journeys.
Our summer issue launches tomorrow, and I couldn’t be more excited. The theme is Love on Any Level, focused on love that transcends social and economic barriers. In anticipation for this fun, sweet issue, I wrote my own take on the upstairs/downstairs theme featuring a forecaddie and a tech mogul.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read it, then be sure to check out the new issue of Spark Flash Fiction tomorrow. The twelve historical and contemporary stories showcase love bold enough to cross societal boundaries and challenge expected norms. You especially won’t want to miss featured author Pepper Basham’s story, The Countess and the Valet. She is one of my absolute favorite historical romance authors! And this story features a couple of familiar characters from her novel, The Cairo Curse.
What are your thoughts on flash fiction? Are you a fan of upstairs/downstairs romances (think Lady Sybil and chauffeur Tom on Downton Abbey)? Why or why not? Let me know if you read of the Love on Any Level stories and what you think!
